Bill Kappele's Resume

August 2006 - Present   Math Options Inc. Bellingham, WA

Technical Director, Instructor

September 1998 - August 2006   Math Options Inc. Anacortes & Bellingham, WA

President, Instructor

1997 - September 1998 Experiment Strategies Anacortes, WA
President, Instructor

I was responsible for the operation of The Experiment Strategies Foundation, a non-profit Foundation whose mission is to help people of all ages develop understanding and confidence in the use of numbers and math.   The Foundation specializes in teaching statistical experiment design (design of experiments or DOE) to scientists and engineers.  The emphasis is always on practical product improvement.  I also had responsibility as an instructor for the DOE classes.

1995 - 1997 Lexmark International Lexington, KY
Research and Development Chemist

I was responsible for the design and development of pigmented thermal ink-jet inks. I co-invented the co-solvent systems used in the pigmented black inks sold in Lexmark printers, including the Lexmark 7000. I also co-invented a pigmented color ink set which was displayed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. I performed extensive internal consulting on the design and analysis of experiments.

1992 - 1995 Hach Company Loveland, CO
Research and Development Chemist

I developed simplified chemical test procedures for water quality analysis, including the written methods, programmed calibrations, and chemical reagents. Specific tests I developed include the Test'N'Tube series:  low and high range ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, total inorganic nitrogen, total persulfate nitrogen, and phosphate. I also helped to manage the calibration project for the DR 4000 spectrophotometer and managed the calibration project for an OEM version of the DR 700 photometer.

1990 - 1992 Hewlett Packard Loveland, CO
Printed Circuit Board Plating Engineer

I was responsible for the printed circuit board electroplating line. I also had responsibility for the photoresist stripping line, the copper etching line, the tin etching line, and the electroless copper plating line.

1986 - 1990 Hewlett Packard San Diego, CA
Research and Development Chemist
I was responsible for the design and development of dye-based thermal ink-jet inks. I invented the improved ink set released with the Paintjet printer.  I also had responsibility for providing chemical support for all thermal ink-jet projects. I trained the chemical technicians in the chemistry lab and helped to select equipment suitable for the measurement of ink physical properties.
